I am now experimenting with not complaining. I don’t know if any of you have seen these purple bracelets that say “A Complaint Free World.com.” A friend gave one to me about two weeks ago. I went to a peace conference out in San Jose and somebody came up to me and said, “Oh you’re wearing this purple bracelet, I started that.” He’s a minister from somewhere in Kansas. He said, “We distributed — I don’t know how many million — maybe five million—all over the world.” You can just Google complaintfreeworld.com and order these bracelets (editor’s note: $1 each).

Shinichi Suzuki is the founder of the Suzuki Method of Music Education. This method is now popular throughout the world as an approach to the musical training of children studying violin, piano, cello, flute and other instruments. Suzuki (not to be confused with the Zen teachers D.T. Suzuki and Shunryu Suzuki) had clear philosophy that emphasized disciplined practice and the importance of listening.

Most of us live very little in the present. If we could watch our thoughts, we would be surprised to see how much time we spend in the past or future. "I don't like the way he behaved to me this morning. I wonder what she meant be that remark last summer. How a m I going to face my boss when I haven't got that report done?" Last night the stars put me in my place, just as they have many times in the past. As I wandered down the hillside beneath my home I was accompanied by an old dog and a chatty, scattered mind. Then I looked up. As soon as I became aware of how big the universe is I realized how small I am. There were hundreds of glistening stars putting on a show entitled,
